Home Furniture Design and Fabric Selection

Home furniture design and fabric selection are very important to a modern homeowner, whether male or female. Nobody wants to choose the wrong furniture or home fabrics, and although the furniture might appear the more important of the two, the wrong fabric selection can completely ruin an otherwise well-designed room.

So what do you do? Leave it to chance and hope that your untrained eye is as good as that of anybody else, or hire a professional to help you? In fact, your own opinion about how to decorate and furnish your home is likely to please you just as much as that of a professional interior designer. Most people who worry about such things are trying to please friends and visitors rather than select what they personally like.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, because most people do not make the best decisions when it comes to home furniture design and fabric selection. While there is no procedure you can follow to come up with what is best for your home, here are some guidelines on how to go about selecting your furniture design and how to make the correct fabric selection to go with it.

Decide on a Theme

You cannot even begin to consider furniture without deciding on a theme for your home – or even for each individual room. Very few people furnish and decorate their entire home on one single theme, but tend to mix them. Thus, many people love to have at least one themed room in their home: an Egyptian room or a room based on Ancient Rome, Classical Greece or an Asian, Wild West or Native American theme.

None of these is suitable for general household furniture, of course, or for the normal fabric selection you will find in your local sores. However, it does show that your whole house doesn’t have to be decorated the same way. So when you decide on a theme, your living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom can all be based on a certain home accent – even a traditional one.

For example, you can use antique style furniture and fabrics in your lounge or living room, with sofas and perhaps a chaise longue in the classical French style. Your dining room might be either contemporary, with a black glass-topped dining room table or one in beautiful glossy French polished walnut or mahogany with Queen Anne legs. The chairs might be traditionally webbed and sprung, and then upholstered in tapestry or velvet fabric.

What this is inferring is that you should decide on a general them for each room before you decide on appropriate home furniture design, and then choose the furniture and a fabric selection appropriate to that theme.

Home Furniture Design

As stated, the design of your furniture should go with the theme: contemporary, antique, Georgian or art nouveaux for example. Furniture makers such as The Custom Shoppe can help you design your own solid wood furniture, offering a choice of designs and woods appropriate to your general theme.

You may have chosen a Shaker theme with simple solid wood furniture. Shakers used what was available locally, such as pine, birch, cherry and poplar, and some even used maple or beech. You might prefer something more European, with stained dark oak, walnut, or cherry veneer or the exotic cinnamon-colored Asian teak or solid mahogany which has a beautiful deep red shade. Rosewood is another beautiful wood suitable for most forms of home furniture design.

Traditional American furniture, such as that available from American Craftsman, could be fashioned from light oak, apple or cherry, and black American black cherry is very much in vogue. So is Maple, although the wood you choose should be appropriate to the rest of the furniture in your room.

Home Fabric Selection

If you choose light oak for your dresser or armoire, a walnut or mahogany chest of drawers or table would not go well. This is where advice on home furniture design would be worth seeking. The same is even truer when you consider your home fabric selection. This is where genuinely serious mistakes can be made.

It would be far better if you could find somebody well versed in interior design, and while you might think that it doesn’t really matter – it does! If your drapes, rugs and upholstery fabrics all match, and the colors and designs were appropriate to the type of furniture you have chosen, then an OK room could be converted into a fabulous room.

Get It Right – For the Cats, Kids and the Visitors!

Keep in mind that not all fabrics are cat-proof, and many are also not child-proof. What that means in general terms is that you should be practical when choosing fabrics, and understand that what might be perfect for occasional dinner parties might not be so suitable for general use in a household with kids and a colony of cats with blunt claws needing sharpening!

Space planning, home furniture design, fabric selection and all the rest that make a room what it is, should be thought out and complement each other. You will get your reward when that first visitor walks into your room and gasps ‘WOW!’ That is why you should make a serious effort to get these things right.

Web Design Advice for the Undesignable

Have you ever wondered if your site is design challenged? Or maybe you looked at a friends design and clicked away in disgust. Their home page had lots of potential, like your own. But their navigation made you throw your monitor across the room; it’s hard to decide what’s going on because there’s too much stuff going on.

Or maybe your site design falls under one of these categories:

Be more mobile.

The smartphone market is blowing up, and your business should stay ahead of this trend. Here’s something you can take a look at if you want to create a mobile friendly version of your company’s website.

Be more clear

The point of having a website is to bring in more people, and to get them more involved with what you’re all about, whether or not you’re trying to sell them something. In any case, you want people to hang around, and become attracted in who you are and what you specialize in.

Grow some more

Does Google rank you high in their search results? Are you specializing in certain keywords, and how are they working out for your marketability factor. Check out this post if you want to know the gist of SEO.

Analyze everything

How is your site converting casual visitors into long-term buyers? What pages are receiving the most hits? Or what material seems to invoke comments? Are you using Google Analytics to track your hits, conversions, and basic marketing campaign results?

Stand out from the crowd

Does your site read like your standard corporate brochure? Or, does it sound more authentic and real? Most sites focus around the overall design instead of the content that is displayed on their pages. But the best sites radiate personality and perception in their content, and it automatically stands out from the crowd. Think about this: If you hid your logo and changed your usual design, could you tell – by the tone of your voice – that it’s the same site, or would it read just like the rest of the crowd?

Be clear, not cool

Every pixel of your website should exude the goals your company has in mind. That means staying away from designs that take away from this perspective by being too flashy. Put clarity at the top of your design priorities – helpful, conventional, resourceful, rational – before coolness – flashy, gaudy, extravagant.

Update, update, and update with ease

Are you able to update your site without any outside help? This is why Facebook or some other media platform has become so popular, because you can change everything without nagging the office geek. Why is this important? You need to update certain parts of your site on a daily basis and as easily as possible, to save money and build a sense of dynamism.

Keep content fresh

Your website is basically a commercial for your business, and if it’s not changing with the times or being updating, then it’s falling behind. When you’re constantly updating your blog or some other site, you’re creating new content for Google to eat up. Companies that actively blog are highly marketable than others and they have plenty of success with search results.

Interact with the people

Adding a blog or some other interactive material to your site gives your visitors a reason to know what you’re all about. Getting to know your people directly, in your own words, lets them experience you in a way that educates them, and why they should buy from you. Updated content that radiates personality and purpose establishes trust in you and your business, and it is the best way to build a long-lasting relationship.

It’s all about the people

You have to help them with their troubles, or show in a personal way how your company can make everything easier, supplementing their pain. Show how your products and/or services can improve their reality in a realistic way.

7 Ways to Get a Guy Hard! Here is How to Easily Turn Him on & Make Him Go Absolutely Crazy

There are obvious ways to get a guy hard. However, before getting into that, it is important to note that sex is not always going to be the answer to getting your man. It is an important part of a relationship, but it is never going to be the be-all, and end-all of your time with him.

Fondle him

Men are animals, so they respond to direct pressure and attention. Fondling, petting, and touching him in certain parts of his body will definitely get results. Of course, try not to have a heavy hand or be too rough.

Rent a dirty movie

You know, this tactic works extremely well. Some men even get a kick out of watching dirty movies with women, or at least one woman. He can fulfill certain fantasies and with you in the same room, he knows that you won’t freak or scream blue murder.

Tease him

If you’re going to try this method, be sure to follow through. If not, you’ll be called something not too pleasant, and you could even get a reputation as a tease. This could ruin you in your social setting, and make it hard for any guy to want to be with you.

Pole dance or lap dance

Some guys like this done in public while others prefer a private show. Find out which turns him on, and go for it. Of course, it goes without saying that you need to practice first, especially if you’re going to do in public.

Wear peek-a-boo clothes

These are clothes that if you bend over or twist a certain way, he gets glimpses of luscious parts of your body. Do it often throughout the night, and do it to other guys too. Your guy will get so hot for you, he’ll be practically dragging you out the door, caveman style.

If you know how to flirt and use your body, do it. If you know how to make your eyes smile, do it. If you know how to sway your hips, do this too. Flirting also means saying the right words at the right time. Turning him on is also a mind game, so if you can tease his imagination, you’re home free.

Give him a sensual massage

You don’t have to be an expert masseuse to do this. You just need to now his trigger points and use it to turn him on. You can get a guy hard just by teasing and twirling your hands across his chest, fondling his ears, and finger walking from his toes to his waist.

Why Does Chocolate Make Me Horny?

Ever noticed that chocolate is sold in the women’s clothing section in department stores? Ever wonder why? It’s because women crave chocolate. And that’s a good thing!

Doctors have done many studies on the connection between chocolate and an increased sex drive in females. These studies reveal that women who eat some chocolate each day have a higher sex drive than women who do not. It was also found that not only do females have stronger sex drives due to a daily intake of chocolate but they had improved sexual function. Chocolate also helps balance out mood swings right during menstruation.

The reason that chocolate improves sexual function and increases sex drive is due to chocolate’s properties. Containing serotonin, which is a chemical that calms the mind and is produced by the brain, chocolate is like taking a mild sedative. Caffeine is found in chocolate in very small amounts and caffeine helps to raise serotonin. The chemical serotonin is often associated with the same effects as marijuana. Yet in reality, about 25 pounds of chocolate would have to be consumed to get the same effect as being high on marijuana. Plus the sweet, creamy taste of chocolate is more soothing and sexual on the tongue and taste buds. Why not having her lick melted chocolate off your body or seeing what happens with a can of chocolate whipped cream?

So if you’re thinking of giving your girl a gift or treat, give her some chocolate. Not just for this upcoming Valentine’s Day but every day. Just a small amount each day will be happier and healthier for you both.

Cloth Insulated Wiring – A Shock and Fire Hazard

I’ve been an electrician in the Los Angeles area since 1979. In that time, I’ve worked on many older homes with wiring systems that were insulated with cloth that’s been varnished. Surprisingly, prior to 1950, many electrical systems relied on this type of insulation. Who would think to put flimsy cloth around a live electrical wire?! However, cloth doesn’t conduct electricity well, so it’s a good insulator. Before the age of plastics, cloth was the insulator of choice for electrical wiring.

Unfortunately, cloth insulation has a liability. As it ages, the cloth can disintegrate and expose bare wires. This can pose shock and fire hazards that modern insulation isn’t subject to.

Does Your House Have Cloth Wiring? Some cloth-insulated wiring systems can look like modern wiring. Was your house built prior to 1950? If so, it may well have cloth-insulated wiring. A qualified electrician can tell you with certainty.

Cloth Insulation Falls Off Wires. Cloth can become brittle over time and fall off the wires, sometimes in chunks. Bare wires pose the danger of shocking anyone who accidentally touches them or of causing fires if two bare wires touch or come too close.

Cloth-Insulated Electrical Systems May Be Ungrounded. This type of wiring system may not have been grounded. Grounding provides additional assurance that excess electrical charges will be routed out of your house and into the ground.

One benefit of grounding that many people are unaware of is that without grounding, low-level electrical charges can build up in your wires and can shorten the lives of computers, entertainment systems, refrigerators, microwaves – any device which includes electronic components like sensors and timers.

Even more importantly, grounding protects people and animals from shocks should an appliance or an electrical system malfunction.

Upgrade for Safety. Upgrading cloth-insulated wiring systems is recommended for fire safety, protection of modern electronics, and for the safety of your family against electrical shocks. If your electrical wiring was installed prior to 1950 and you think that it might have cloth insulation, call a licensed electrician to take a look. Many electricians will do an inspection for free and give you a free estimate for any upgrading that might be needed.

Symbol Tables In Compiler Design

A compiler from the user’s perspective is a software that reads input source files and compiles them. The output of the compiler is usually one main executable file and some auxiliary files. The compiler should be fast and should generate optimized code.

But for the compiler designer a compiler is a beautiful balance between data structures and algorithms. Both are needed to quickly scan source files, to parse the tokens, to generate intermediate code, to optimize it and to link modules. Each compiler stage needs the data in some format. Even highly optimized algorithm would be inefficient if the data would not be stored efficiently. One of the most important data structures in every compiler is symbol table.

Symbol table is a special data structure that holds all symbols, from identifiers to internally generated nodes. Compiler symbol table must contain data structures that will hold string values for symbol names, integer values for data pointers, bit values for boolean flags and fields for special purposes. The organization of the symbol table must be such that it is possible to quickly search for a symbol, to quickly move to the next one. to easily add a new symbol at any position, to easily move data from one place to another and not to use much memory. When you try to combine all the requirements you will find that it is not so easy to decide in which form the data should be stored. One of the compromises is to use different symbol tables for different kind of data.

For example, the symbol table that stores the identifiers needs to efficiently store strings of variable length with associated attributes. One of the functions most frequently called during the scanning of the source file is to check whether the identifier is already in the symbol table. The brute force method to check all identifiers would be very inefficient. Therefore, a better method has to be found. A common approach is to use hash tables. There is a hash function that for each identifier calculates some integer value. This value should only depend on the identifier name. This value needs to be power of 2 and few bits is enough. For each hash value there is a separate linked list of identifiers. So the hash function determines in which list the identifier will be stored. This way we can minimize the search count.

Another example is symbol table that, for example, holds the nodes of program control flow. You need to be able to quickly move in both directions starting from any node. This requirement implies use of two-way linked lists.

The best way to learn about symbol tables, hash functions, linked lists and algorithms is to examine the code of some compiler. You will need some time to become familiar with the functions and the data used but then you will have an overview of the whole picture. Every compiler is a symphony of data structures and algorithms.

History and Clothing in Ancient Japan

Japanese history includes alternating periods of isolation and revolutionary influences from the rest of the world. As early as the Jomon period from about 14000BC to 300 BC, Japan had a hunter-gatherer lifestyle; wooden stilt houses, pit dwelling, and agriculture. Weaving was still unknown and the ancient Japanese clothing consisted of fur. However, some of the world’s oldest pottery is found in Japan, along with daggers, jade, combs made form shell and clay figures.

The period thereafter to 250 BC saw the influx of new practices like weaving, rice sowing, iron and bronze making influenced by china and Korea. Chinese travelers describe the men ‘with braided hair, tattooing and women with large, single-piece clothing.’ Initially ancient Japanese clothing consisted of single piece clothing. The ancient and classical Japan begins from the middle of the 3rd century to 710. An advanced agricultural and militaristic culture defines this period. By 645, Japan rapidly adopted Chinese practices and reorganized its penal code.

The peak period of ancient Japan and its imperial court is from 794 to 1185. Art, poetry, literature and trade expeditions continued with vigor. Warlords and powerful regional families ruled ancient Japan from 1185 to 1333 and the emperor was just a figure head. By the Japanese Middle Ages, Portugal had introduced firearms by a chance landing of their ship at Japanese coast; samurai charging ranks were cut down; trade with Netherlands, England and Spain had opened up new avenues. Several missionaries had entered Japan as well.

Distinct features of the lifestyle, ancient Japanese clothing and women is difficult to decipher for the simple reason that it is super-imposed by the Chinese culture. Ancient Japan readily adopted other cultures and practices and most of its own culture is lost among these adaptations.

Ancient Japanese clothing was mostly unisex, with differences being in colors, length and sleeves. A Kimono tied with an Obi or a sash around the waist was the general clothing and with the advent of western clothing are now mostly worn at home or special occasions. Women’s obi in ancient Japanese clothing would mostly be elaborate and decorative. Some would be as long as 4meters and tied as a flower or a butterfly. Though a Yukata means a ‘bath clothing’, these were often worn in the summers as morning and evening gowns. Ancient Japanese clothing consisted of mena and women wearing Haori or narrow paneled jacket for special occasions such as marriages and feasts. These are worn over a kimono and tied with strings at the breast level.

The most interesting piece of ancient Japanese clothing is the ju-ni-hitoe or the ‘twelve layers’ adorned by ladies at the imperial court. It is multi-layered and very heavy and worn on a daily basis for centuries! The only change would be the thickness of the fabric and the number of layers depending on the season. Princesses still wear these on weddings.

Since the Japanese people don’t wear footwear inside their homes, tabi is still worn. These are split -toe socks woven out of non-stretch materials with thick soles. Clogs have been worn for centuries in ancient Japan and were known as Geta. These were made of wood with two straps and were unisexual. Zori was footwear made of softer materials like straw and fabric with a flat sole.

Ancient Japanese clothes, culture and footwear are slowly regaining their popularity with the western world. There is an honest curiosity in knowing more, wearing kimonos or using silk fabrics with beautiful floral prints from the ‘land of the rising sun’.

Trademark Problems With Non-Profits – My Husband Made That Logo, I Watched Him Design It

Not long ago, I was reviewing a stellar level logo that was done by a gentleman whose wife had started a non-profit group. There was a contest for the best logo, but the ones coming in were quite underwhelming and less than notable, what the organization needed was something to wow the new members and give life to the fledgling organization. They asked me what I thought of the newest logo entry, done by the founder’s (wife’s) husband, so I told them what I thought; “It’s great.”

In fact it was so great, I questioned its authenticity, even though I realized her husband was an accomplished graphic designer. Nevertheless, I went online to search similar logos and I found one so similar it was eerily familiar. Did he copy it, or did he search online, find it and modify it to the point at which it was different enough to not look like a copy, but still contained the same basic elements to catch your eye? Hard to say, I am not the judge or jury, okay so, let’s talk shall we?

You see, I mentioned this to the founder of the non-profit group, and she said; “I watched my husband create it, he didn’t copy it, he created it from scratch, so, we don’t have to worry about copyright or trademark issues.” Well, I guess I got my answer, he didn’t use that other logo as his muse, nevertheless the logo was too close and similar, so using it would be legally unwise. Now you might think that the lady and her husband are protected because they came up with it using original thought and creativity, but the law doesn’t work that way.

If the true owner of that trademark sues the organization for using that logo because it is so similar to their registered trademark, then they can force them to stop (cease and desist) an sue them if they don’t. Consider this, if someone used the Golden Arches used by a famous QSR (quick service restaurant), Fast Food Franchise, it doesn’t matter if they were divinely inspired or not, they still can’t use that mark in commerce. There is more than enough case law to back up the trademark holder in that case, or indeed, in the case study I explain above.

I did alert the non-profit group founder as to this reality, but she didn’t understand what I was saying. I hope you do. Please consider all this and think n it.

Home Design Ideas to Create a Home of Energy Saving "Green" Beauty

We live in a new world. The time for paying attention to our natural resources is now. We have woken to the realization that our world is not the inexhaustible support system we believed it to be.

Thankfully “going green” does not require extreme and costly changes. Making a significant difference in the worlds natural resources, only takes small decisions made one step at a time. We can decide to:

Recycle Reuse Restore Reduce

With these 4 words in mind we have a few of the most wonderful ideas, tips and secrets to present. Simple and affordable going green ideas. And, if you choose to implement any or all of these suggestions you can be assured you are contributing to the over all health of the earth now and toward a more sustainable living environment for our future generations.

1. Going Green by Changing Your Lights. If every household in the U.S. replaced just one light bulb from the standard incandescent to the highly energy efficient luminescent bulbs being promoted today we would

Save A national average of $600,000,000. a year in energy costs.

Save Enough energy to light more than 3,000,000 homes for one year.

Save Green house gases equivalent to the emissions given off from over 800,000 cars.

Save Significant amounts on your energy bill. My husband spent one day replacing all the bulbs in our home. Not totally convinced it would make that much of a difference on our bill I supported his efforts more for the conservation aspects (and because he had turned off the TV) rather than the money saving pitch.

Boy was I surprised when the next electric bill came,

it dropped approximately 20%! or about 10 cents per

This change in bulb has one characteristic that may take some time getting used to. When you first turn on the lights – they appear dingy due to the fact they need to warm up a bit before they are at peak – light up the room – performance. They also initially cost a bit more but the standard life span far outlasts the basic bulb – from months to years.

Another energy saving tip is to install dimmer switches. Years ago these dimmers did not provide any benefit other than creating ambient light in a room. Today they are designed to minimize your electric consumption as well.

2. Going Green by Choosing an Eco Friendly Floor. If you are planning to replace your floor with hard wood there are two options that are delightfully green, look beautiful, perform well, and cost less than most hard woods. Cork – Cork has come a long way from its original purpose of wine stopping.

It comes from the bark of a tree that can be harvested once every 10 years and does no damage to the tree at all. Like sheering a sheep! It’s typically sold in tile or sheet form and is easy to install. Because cork contains millions of air bubbles – it is comfortable to walk on and easier on the feet when standing for long periods of time in the kitchen. It is also hypoallergenic, absorbs sounds, and acts as a thermal insulator which means warmth on the feet.

There are fabulous color and grain options available today so be sure to shop around!

There are a few drawbacks to consider. Cork does need to be sealed to moisture protect and is not very resistant to fading or punctures however, it does bounce back well when a heavy blunt object is dropped on it.

The other floor covering option is Bamboo – bamboo is definitely more competitive if you need a harder wood floor. Harder than oak yet it is made from a fast growing Asian grass that matures in about 6 years. It can be refinished numerous times with dye-based stains. Very eco-friendly.

Bamboo also offers a wonderful variety of color, grain and style. Have fun looking for the color and grain of this beautiful hard wood option. Did I mention it’s priced lower than most oak options?

3. Going Green by Recycling or Restoring Your Furniture. Must you buy new furniture or can you refinish, restore, repaint or recycle?

Wonderful design projects can result from painting, restaining or reupholstering that piece that is dated or worn. The most exciting aspect of recycling furniture is the money saved.

Sandpaper, paint and associated supplies are relatively inexpensive. Door knobs, drawer pulls can really change up the look of that tired piece of furniture also with minimum expense. A picture says a thousand words especially in this case. Visit the web site listed below to see some fantastic examples of these furniture restoring options.

Design applications usually last about 10 years. The neutral – earthy colors we have been seeing so often has been around since the late 90’s so it’s on its way out. This year you will start seeing bold, bright colors being applied to accent walls, furniture and textures. So, don’t be afraid to experiment with color, fabric textures and brush techniques. This is the year for bold, bright and beautiful! Go for it.

Another idea you may want to entertain is a fantastic option to buy “slightly used” from your local Good Will or Salvation Army. With a bit of frugal redesign “know how” you can create remarkable results.

4. Going Green by Buying Energy Star Appliances. Energy Star is the U.S. Governments Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy Seal of approval system to confirm a products ability to avoid/limit greenhouse gases without sacrificing quality.

When you purchase an Energy Star item you can be assured you have a product that will reduce energy consumption and save you money when used in your home, guaranteed through the entire life span of the appliance.

2007 stats from energystar.gov reports that consumers “saved enough energy in 2007 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 27 million cars – all while saving $16,000,000,000. (16 Billion) on their utility bills.

Wow – Good Job! Let’s keep up the good work!
